Weber Qualfies At USTA Honolulu Futures

HONOLULU - University of Hawai'i men's tennis player Andreas Weber qualified into the main singles draw at the Oceanic Time Warner Cable 2007 Honolulu Futures pro circuit tournament, Monday, at the UH Tennis Complex.

Weber, ranked No. 28 in the ITA preseason rankings, dropped American Patrick Frandji in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, in third-round action of the qualifying singles draw. Weber will next play against American Brad Lum-Tucker in the first round of the main singles draw on Wednesday.

Rainbow Warrior junior Sascha Heinemann, ranked No. 50 in the ITA preseason rankings, will next play Dennis Lajola, brother of former Rainbow Warrior and current Rainbow Wahine tennis assistant coach, Derrick Lajola, in the first round on Wednesday. Last week at the USTA Waikoloa Futures pro circuit tournament, Lajola defeated Weber, 7-5, 6-4.

In doubles play, the dynamic duo of Heinemann and Weber will face second-seeded Carsten Ball and Rylan Rizza in the first round. The team of junior Jeff Fitch and sophomore Spence Mendoza will compete against Ikaika Jobe and Brad Lum-Tucker. Jobe and Lum-Tucker won the 2004 Kailua Night Doubles tournament. Both doubles matches are scheduled for Tuesday.

The tournament continues throughout the week and concludes with the main draw finals, Sunday, Nov. 18.
