Rainbow Warriors Advance At Honolulu Futures

HONOLULU - University of Hawai'i men's tennis players Jeff Fitch, Sascha Heinemann and Andreas Weber advanced at the Oceanic Time Warner Cable 2007 Honolulu Futures pro circuit tournament, Saturday, at the UH Tennis Complex.

Top-seeded Heinemann, earned a first-round bye in the qualifying singles draw as did Weber. Heinemann, ranked No. 50 in the ITA preseason rankings, blanked Canadian Ehsan Arman, 6-0, 6-0 in second-round action. Weber, meanwhile, dispatched Nikola Petrov of Bulgaria, 6-1, 7-6 (5).

Both Rainbow Warriors are one win away from qualifying for the main draw. Heinemann will meet Hong-Tae Kim of Korea, while Weber will face American Shane Templeman.

Jeff Fitch was also victorious, outlasting Ash Misquith of Canada, 6-0, 6-7(3), 6-2 in the first-round. Fitch next faces American Sydney Jim in second-round action.

Eight qualifiers will advance to the 64-player main draw, beginning on Tuesday. The tournament concludes with the main draw finals, Sunday, Nov. 18.
