Wilder Continues Local Cross Country Dominance; Captures HPU Invite

KANE`OHE, O`ahu - University of Hawai`i senior cross country runner Chantelle Wilder made it a perfect 4-for-4 in local competition after capturing the Hawai`i Pacific Invitational Saturday. The senior won the 5K race at HPU's Windward campus in 18:51, nearly 30 seconds faster than her nearest competitor.

As a team, the Rainbow Wahine placed third, accumulating 57 points. UH-Hilo captured the women's team title with 46 points.

Earlier this year, Wilder won individual titles at the Brigham Young-Hawai`i Invitational, Chaminade Invitational, and Big Wave Invitational. She now has eight career titles, along with three last season and one during her freshman year.

Other UH participants who scored team points included Samantha Lotnick (20:24, 4th), Jessi Locke (21:00, 11th), Briana Goodnight (22:07, 20th), and Anna Schleuter (22:17, 21st). Also competing were Mallory Kurosumi<.biolink> (22:28, 22nd), Molly Fearn (23:52, 26th), Kelli Murata (24:52, 28th), and Whitney Torigoe (25:28, 30th).

UH will next compete in the Santa Clara Invitational, Saturday, Oct.13. That meet is the final competition before the Western Athletic Conference Championship, Oct. 27.
