HONOLULU - The No. 11 University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team (18-4, 12-0 WAC) swept the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (6-20, 1-12) 30-20, 30-15 and 30-16 in front of a crowd of 6,160 at the Stan Sheriff Center Sunday.
Jamie Houston capped a strong weekend, hitting .448 with 17 kills, six digs and three blocks. Juliana Sanders hit .562 with 10 kills while Aneli Cubi-Otineru had 12 kills and 10 digs. Elizabeth Ka`aihue added nine digs while Rayna Kitaguchi had a career-high five digs in just one game played.
The two teams kept it close at the start of the first game, as neither team held a lead of more than four points until a 8-2 run put UH ahead 22-15. The Rainbow Wahine continued to roll the rest of the way, scoring six of the last seven points to take game one 30-20.
UH kept it going into the second game, taking leads of 15-7 and 23-9. Hawai`i then put it into cruise control, taking the second game 30-15.
The Rainbow Wahine played 13players in game three alone, playing 16 players on the night. Elise Duggins came off the bench to serve most of a eight-point run to go ahead 12-3. The UH subs kept the pressure on, getting their lead to 23-9 before Amanda Simmons served an ace to end it 30-16.
Hawai`i will now head out on their final regular season road trip, playing at Nevada on Nov. 1 and Fresno State on Nov. 2.
