TULSA, Okla. - University of Hawai'i junior
Sascha Heinemann advanced to the third round of the qualifying draw at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships, Tuesday morning, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Heinemann, the No. 3 seed, dropped Hicham Laalej of Stetson in two convincing sets, 6-1, 6-2. The All-American Championships is one of the three major collegiate tournaments.
The Eschwege, Germany native, ranked No. 50 in the ITA preseason singles rankings, is one match away from qualifying into the main draw. The junior will next face 67th-ranked Ricardo Soriano of host Tulsa, Wednesday, 11:00 a.m.
As a junior, Soriano was named to the 2006-07 Conference USA first team singles, with a 22-13 record. Rainbow Warrior sophomore Andreas Weber, ranked No. 28, received an automatic entry into the main singles draw, which will begin Thursday, October 4.
Heinemann and Weber, ranked No. 48 in the ITA preseason doubles rankings, were ousted in the first round of the qualifying doubles draw to Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski of New Mexico, 8-2. The tournament continues throughout the week.
