Spector Qualifies For Singlehanded Nationals

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - University of Hawai`i coed sailing team left an impressive mark at the Pacific Coast Sailing Conference Men's Singlehanded Championship with junior Mark Spector earning a top finish in the regatta after two days of racing. Two other UH sailors placed in the top 10.

Spector was one of two sailors to qualify for the ICSA Singlehanded Nationals to be held in Seattle, Nov. 2-4. Chris Wenner of California placed second and will represent the Bears at the nationals. Spector is the first Rainbow to qualify for the men's singlehanded nationals since Bryan Lake in 2002.

Spector led 24 sailors with an 81-point finish after 17 races. UH's Peter Wenner finished in fifth place with score of 122. William Petersen placed right behind Wenner with a sixth-place finish and a score of 131. Senior Andrew Meade also placed 13th for UH with a score of 222.

The next regatta for the coed team is the PCCSC Sloop Championship in Newport Beach, Calif., Oct. 20-21.
