No. 12 Rainbow Wahine Take Down Boise State In Three Games

BOISE, Idaho - The No. 12 University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team (14-3, 8-0 WAC) swept through the Boise State Broncos (4-13, 1-8) 30-17, 30-22 and 30-16 at Bronco Gym Thursday.

Jamie Houston hit .500 with 19 kills to lead Hawai`i. Aneli Otineru added 15 kills, nine digs and three aces while hitting .379. Juliana Sanders hit .462 with eight kills and five blocks while Tara Hittle provided a match-high 16 digs. Stephanie Brandt had a double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs with Elizabeth Ka`aihue had 14 digs and six assists.

Boise State opened game one by taking a 5-3 edge. Hawai`i then went on a 11-4 run, making it 14-9 in favor of the Rainbow Wahine. UH continued to roll, getting their lead to 27-13 before taking the first game 30-17.

The Rainbow Wahine kept their momentum going to start the second game, taking a 7-1 advantage early. The Broncos quickly responded with a 5-1 run to cut their deficit to 8-6. BSU kept the pressure on, taking their first lead of the game at 11-10. After the Broncos tied it at 12-12, a six-point UH run put Hawai`i ahead 18-12. UH survived one more comeback attempt before taking game two 30-22.

Hawai`i jumped out to an early 14-4 lead to start game three. UH would then go into cruise control, holding a double-digit lead for most of the game before taking it 30-16.

The Rainbow Wahine will next face the Idaho Vandals in Moscow, Idaho, at 7 p.m. (4 p.m. HST) on Saturday, Oct. 13. They will then conclude the road trip at Logan, Utah, facing Utah State on Monday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. (3 p.m. HST).
