FULLERTON, Calif.- The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team concluded its four-match Southern California road trip by earning its first victory of the 2007 season, defeating the Cal State Fullerton Titans (1-2), 4-2, Monday at the Titan Courts.
In singles play, the Rainbow Wahine (1-3) won four of six matches to clinch the victory. Senior Kana Aikawa defeated Gina Le, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 1 position. At No. 2, freshman Sophie Kobuch needed two tie-breakers to beat Katrina Domela, 7-6, 7-6. Junior Chloe Bihag crushed Cheyenne Inglis, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 3 court and senior Samanta Cappella outlasted Brandy Andrews in three-sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, at the No. 6 position. UH senior Florence Wasko lost a heartbreaker to Shaghig Injejikian, 7-6, 7-6, at the No. 5 court.
With the outcome of the match already being decided, the Titans and the Rainbow Wahine agreed not to play the three doubles matches.
The Rainbow Wahine's next match will be on February 1, against the 39th-ranked San Diego State Aztecs, 4:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
