WAILEA, Maui - The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team opened play at the Maui Invitational, Friday, at the Grand Wailea Resort. The three-day individual tournament, features singles and doubles teams from UH, Washington, and Sacramento State.

The tournament features two singles flights which involved UH players Kana Aikawa, Jacqui Williams, Florence Wasko, Sophie Kobuch, and Julia Sandborn in action on Friday. All five players were unable to win their matches, including third-seeded Aikawa, who dropped a 6-4, 7-5 decision to Sacramento State's Joyce Martinez Gutierrez.

In doubles action, the pair of Williams and Kobuch defeated Sac State's Cecelia Helland and Karina Jarlkaganova. Wasko and Bihag won their match against Martinez and Luba Schirifis.

Although the match is held in Maui, Washington is serving as hosts of the tournament. Further results are updated on UW's website, gohuskies.com
