HONOLULU - University of Hawai`i men's tennis players
Chad Faulk and
Jeff Fitch dropped their quarterfinal round matches, Saturday, in the USTA Honolulu Futures Wild Card Tournament at the UH Tennis Complex. Both are eliminated from the 64-player draw which determines a wild card entry into November's Honolulu Futures tournament.
In their morning Round of 16 matches, Faulk defeated teammate Brent Hunter in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, while Fitch swept Stephen Royalty, 7-6 (5), 6-1.
Faulk, seeded seventh, faced off against the top-seeded Jan Tribler in the quarterfinals but dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision. Fitch lost to third-seeded Mikael Maatta, 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles action, Faulk and Fitch teamed together and advanced to the semifinals after their opponents, Daniel Llarenas and Peter Raben retired at the start of the second set. Faulk and Fitch won the first set 6-2. The duo will next face the top-seeded team of Tribler and Maatta on Sunday.
