HONOLULU - University of Hawai`i men's basketball head coach Riley Wallace announced the hiring of Eran Ganot (pronounced eh-RHAN gah-not) as the team's new Director of Operations. Ganot replaces Gabe Watson, who spent the past two years at UH, and recently accepted a head coaching position at Life Pacific College in San Dimas, Calif.
Ganot's duties at UH will include coordinating team travel, assist in recruiting, scheduling and film exchange, work with the team managers, serve as the liaison to the booster club and direct the annual UH Men's Basketball Summer Camp.
Ganot recently served as an Administrative Assistant at Saint Mary's College in Moraga, Calif., for the past three years. At SMC, he was responsible for a number of duties including academics, scheduling and recruiting. The Gaels went 61-33 and had the best three-year record in school history during his stay. The 2004-05 squad finished 25-9 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for just the fourth time in school history. In May, Ganot received the school's Mike Gibbons Volunteer of the Year Award.
Ganot earned a bachelor's degree in economics and sociology/anthropology at Pennsylvania's Swarthmore College in 2003. He was a four-year letterman for the Division III school and finished in the school's top five in steals. Ganot served as team captain during his junior and senior years.
A 1999 graduate of Tenafly High School in New Jersey, Ganot was a two-time all-league first team pick and was named to the all-county team as a senior.
