UH Falls Short At District Team Racing Championships

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team failed to qualify for the Intercollegiate Sailing Association's Team Race Nationals after finishing fourth at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association Team Race Championship hosted by Stanford on Friday, April 28. UH had made five straight trips to nationals, before falling short of qualifying this year.

Hawai`i completed the all-day event with a record of 5-7 in a 12-race series. Host Stanford finished first and USC finished second to qualify for next month's nationals. The top two finishers in the district earn a bid for the ICSA National Championship.

UH, currently ranked 7th in the nation by Sailing World, now head to San Francisco where they will compete in the PCIYRA Coed Dinghy Championship held, April 29-30, with two ICSA berths up for grabs. The Rainbow Wahine already qualified for the women's event -- their eighth berth in the last nine years - with a second place finish in last week's qualifier. The ICSA National Championship, including the women's, team racing and coed events will be held in Charleston, S.C., May 24th - June 2.
