UH Finishes WAC Championship In Sixth; Gammie Earns All-WAC Honors

Final Results

MORGAN HILL, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team closed out the WAC Championships in sixth place with a final score of 949 (314-318-317). Junior Dale Gammie was named a first-team All-WAC honoree for the second-straight year, earning her third All-WAC honor.

Xyra Suyetsugu (76-76-81=233) led the Rainbow Wahine, tying for eighth at +17. Carolina Perez (80-80-80=240) capped her freshman campaign with a 20th place finish. Lisa Kajihara (78-81-82=241) and Gammie (82-85-74=241) finished in a tied for 21st while Tara Chappell (80-81-85=246) tied for 29th.

San Jose State (+58) won the team title, earning the WAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. New Mexico State (+67) finished second, followed by Idaho and Fresno State (+75), Nevada (+80), UH (+85) and Boise State (+86).

San Jose State's Jenelle Gomez (+11) won the individual title, followed by teammate Carmina Calle and Idaho's Renee Skidmore (+12) and Nevada's Melanie De Leon and Boise State's Mandi Hedberg (+13).

Skidmore was named the WAC Player of the Year with San Jose State's Sirapa Kasemsamran earning Freshman of the Year honors. SJSU's John Dormann was named the WAC Coach of the Year.

The tournament concluded UH's season, although Gammie may earn an at large bid into the NCAA Tournament as an individual.
