STANFORD, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team finished in fifth place at the Jeremy McIntyre Team Race, hosted by Stanford University, Mar. 4-5. The Rainbows faced extremely windy conditions all day on Sunday, to finish the tournament.
UH tied for fifth place with UC Irvine after the first day of action, going 5-6 in the eight team, double round-robin regatta. But gave up ground on the second day, finishing with a final record of 9-10 and sole possession of fifth place. Sailing for UH were Bryan Lake, Eric Oppen, Meredith Adams, Joey Pasquali, Becky Mabardy, and Caitlin Hill.
St. Mary's of Maryland took home first place with a final record of 14-5, beating out host Stanford, who finished at 12-7.
The Rainbows, who have been ranked as high as first, are currently seventh in the latest Sailing World poll, and may slide down even further after this weekend's race.
Next up for the coed team is the St. Francis Yacht Club Race in San Francisco, Calif., on April 8-9.
