HONOLULU - The No. 24 University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (13-6, 2-3 FHT) fell to the Washington Huskies (11-4, 3-2 FHT) 8-7 in nine innings, closing out a double-header and the First Hawaii Title Rainbow Baseball Tournament.
Keahi Rawlins (0-1) took the loss despite allowing no hits with four strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Elliott Cribby (2-1) got the win for the Huskies.
Matthew Inouye led the way offensively, ging 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double. Justin Frash added a 1-for-3 game with two RBI and one run while Robbie Wilder went 1-for-4 with two runs.
Washington looked to put the game away early on as they scored six runs, with five unearned, in the first inning. The 'Bows came back with runs driven in by Frash and Inouye in the bottom half of the inning, cutting it to 6-2.
UH then got within a run after a four-run fourth inning as Frash, Inouye and Luis Avila each drove in a run, making it 6-5.
UW added another unearned run in the fifth before the Rainbows put on their rally caps and went to work in the bottom of the seventh, scheduled to be the last inning. With two runners on and no outs, Adam Roberts hit a pinch-hit single up the middle, driving in two to tie the game at seven and send it to extra innings.
After a scoreless eighth inning, the Huskies finally put it away in the ninth as Bradley Boyer hit a pinch-hit triple, driving in the game-winner.
UH will next host Western Illinois for a five-game series starting Friday, March 10.
