Rainbow Wahine Finish Fifth In Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

Final Results

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team finished fifth in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at the Kaneohe Klipper golf course, shooting a 55-over-par 907 (310-302-295).

The team was led by freshman Carolina Perez, who finished sixth with a six-over-par 219 (77-70-72). Xyra Suyetsugu finished in a tie for 18th (75-82-70=227), followed on the team by Lisa Kajihara in a tie for 33rd (79-77-76=232), and Dale Gammie (84-77-77=238) and Kari Sur (79-78-81=238), who both finished tied for 43rd.

Four Rainbow Wahine competed individually. Tara Chappell led the individuals, tying for 26th (75-75-80=230). Also competing were Roslyn Folk (80-79-86=245, t-53rd), Nancy Shon (82-78-90=250, 58th) and Allie Rowe (83-89-90=262, 62nd).

Tennessee was impressive in taking home the team title, shooting four-over-par as a team. New Mexico finished second at +42, followed by Louisiana State (+53), Notre Dame (+54) and UH.

Individually, four Lady Vols held the top four spots in the tournament. Marci Turner was the medalist, shooting -3. She was followed by teammates Golda Johansson (+1), Nicole Smith (+3) and Violeta Retamoza (+4), and New Mexico's Mikaela Backstedt (+5).
