Sensley Leads UH Rally Over Broncos, 67-57

HONOLULU - Forward Julian Sensley scored 20 of his game-high 25 points in the second half as the Hawai'i men's basketball team rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit against Santa Clara, Saturday night, in a non-conference game at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Warriors improved to 14-9 overall and 13-2 in home games.

Sensley finished 9-of-16 from the field and converted a career-best five 3-pointers. During a four and a half minute stretch in the second half, Sensley scored all 16 of the team's points and turned a five-point deficit into a four-point UH lead. The senior made seven of his 11 attempts after intermission, in which the 'Bows out-scored the Broncos, 43-25.

Forward Ahmet Gueye posted his fourth double-double of the season, with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Matt Lojeski added 16 points while guard Deonte Tatum recorded his fourth straight game in double figure points with 12 and eight assists.

For the Broncos, Travis Niesen posted a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Brandon Rohe added 13 points while Sean Denison had 11 points and six boards.

The Broncos came out on fire in the first half, converting 11 of their first 17 shots from the field to take a 10-point lead at 26-16 midway through the period. SCU pushed its lead to 12 twice more before the 'Bows cut the deficit to 32-24 at the half.

Niesen led all scorers with 15 at the break and helped the Broncos out-rebound UH, 20-to-14. The 'Bows got all of their scoring from Sensley (5), Lojeski (6), Tatum (7) and Gueye (6), who combined for all 24 points.

Hawai'i slowly chipped away in the second half using a 13-4 run, sparked by three straight Sensley 3-pointers, to take its first lead of the game at 48-47 with 9:17 remaining. Sensley continued to pour it on with a baseline dunk and his fourth trey of the second half to give UH a 53-49 lead.

With the 'Bows leading 58-55 at the five minute mark, Lojeski's bucket and three-point play, put UH up by 10 with 1:46 left.

The 'Bows will make their final WAC road trip of the season at Idaho, Wednesday, Feb. 22 and San Jose State, Saturday, Feb. 25.
