HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team defeated Tulsa, 5-2, in a mock dual match, Wednesday at the UH Tennis Complex.
The Rainbow Warriors got off to a slow start by dropping all three doubles matches to lose the doubles point. Sophomores Sascha Heinemann and Jeff Fitch dropped a tough match to 48th ranked Arnau Brugues and Federico Soriano, 9-7.
UH fought back in singles play and won five of six matches to clinch the victory. Heinemann won a straight set 6-2, 6-2 match over Will Gray at the No. 1 position. At No. 2, freshman Andreas Weber rolled over 40th-ranked Federico Soriano, 6-3, 6-1. Senior Matt Seeberger outlasted Diego Camacho in an exciting three set match, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 3. Senior Derrick Lajola beat Andy Connelly, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 and Fitch dropped Lucques Maasdorp, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 court.
The dual match results will not count toward either team's record, however, individual results will count.
Beginning on Saturday, the 'Bows will compete in the USTA's Honolulu Futures tournament at the UHTC. The qualifying round runs from Saturday through Monday, with the main draw starting on Tuesday.
