No. 16 Rainbow Wahine Follow Football's Lead To Earn Sweep At Utah State

LOGAN, Utah - The No. 16 University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team (19-5, 11-1 WAC) swept through the Utah State Aggies (12-15, 5-8) 30-17, 30-18 and 30-24 in front of a crowd of 1,332 at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum Saturday.

Jamie Houston hit .520 with 13 kills, 10 digs, two aces and three blocks. Juliana Sanders had eight kills and six blocks while hitting .636 while Sarah Mason posted 11 kills. Kari Gregory added six kills and five blcoks while Kanoe Kamana`o had 36 assists, three aces, theee digs and two blocks.

Hawai`i got ahead early in the first game, taking a 7-2 lead after a couple aces by Kamana`o. A four-point run by the Aggies brought them back within a point at 9-8. UH responded with a 4-0 run of their own to push their lead back to 13-8, and never looked back. The Rainbow Wahine got it as high as 27-15 before winning the first game, 30-17.

UH was dominant early in game two, taking a lead of 11-1. USU came back with a quick 4-0 run, but Hawai`i then scored five in a row to go ahead 16-5. The Rainbow Wahine got the advantage up to 21-7, before coasting their way to a 30-18 win in game two.

Hawai`i again took quick leads of 6-1 and 11-4 to start game three. After trading a few sideouts, UH used another 5-0 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 19-10. Utah State stayed in it, but couldn't overcome the Rainbow Wahine, who ended up taking the game 30-24.

The Rainbow Wahine will return home for their final homestand of the season, hosting Louisiana Tech on Nov. 10, at 6:30 p.m., before facing No. 23 New Mexico State on Nov. 12, at 5 p.m., for senior night.
