WAILEA, Maui - The defending national champion Stanford Cardinal shut-out the University of Hawai`i women's tennis team, 7-0, in a mock dual match at the Grand Wailea Resort, Tuesday afternoon. The match was the final contest for the Rainbow Wahine during the fall season.
The Cardinal won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles action. The fifth ranked doubles tandem of Anne Yelsey and Celia Durkin defeated UH's Sabita Walkup and Jacqui Williams, 8-2.
In singles play, Stanford featured a line-up with four nationally ranked players including No. 3 Theresa Logar, a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Walkup, ranked No. 116, at the No. 1 position. Durkin, ranked No. 20 nationally, defeated UH's Kana Aikawa, 6-1, 6-0, at court two.
UH opens the spring season by hosting the Maui Invitational, Jan. 12-14.
