WAILEA, Maui - The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team nearly pulled off the upset of No. 10 Stanford in a mock dual match, Tuesday, at the Grand Wailea Resort. The Cardinal rallied for a 4-3 victory with three-set wins in the final two singles matches.

The Cardinal, ranked 10th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, captured two of the three doubles matches. UH won at No. 3 as seniors Chad Faulk and Derrick Lajola outlasted Kevin Kaiser and Chris Rasmussen, 8-7 (8).

In singles play, UH won the top three matches including Sascha Heinemann's 6-4, 7-5 win over James Wire, ranked No. 125 nationally, at the No. 1 position. At court two, Andreas Weber hung on for a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 victory over James Wan, ranked No. 47. Senior Matt Seeberger rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 decision over Blake Muller at No. 3.

With UH leading the team score 3-2, the Cardinal gutted out three-set wins in the final two matches. UH's Jeff Fitch served for the match at 5-4 but dropped the final three games to Eric McKean, who won 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, at No. 4.

In the deciding match, Kaiser pulled off a remarkable comeback against Faulk at court five. After dropping the first set, 6-3, Faulk won 10 of the next 11 games and led 4-1 in the third set. But Kaiser won the final five games and clinched Stanford's victory with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 win.

The match concluded the fall season for the Rainbow Warriors.
