HONOLULU - Four University of Hawai'i men's tennis players advanced to the second round of qualifying at the USTA's Honolulu Futures tournament, Saturday, at the UH Tennis Complex.
Chad Faulk,
Spencer Mendoza,
Andreas Weber, and
Brent Hunter all won their matches on the first day of the qualifying tournament at the Pro Circuit event.
Faulk, a senior from Omaha, Neb., defeated former Rainbow Warrior teammate Yasuo Sakurai, 6-1, 6-0, and will next face 11th-seeded A.J. Bartlett.
Mendoza, a freshman from Waikoloa, Hawai'i, swept Carter Lam, 6-3, 6-1, setting up a match-up with fifth-seeded Ross Connolly in the second round.
Weber, a freshman from Huenfeld, Germany, had no problems with Ben Gonzalez, 6-0, 6-1, and will next face ninth-seeded Jeff Das.
Hunter, a senior from Lubbock, Texas, got past Geoff Gehrke, 6-2, 6-1, and will meet eighth-seeded Dave Lingman in round two.
Also in action for UH was newcomer Matt Seeberger, who pushed 15th seed Peraklat Siriluethaiwa to three sets before falling, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Jeff Fitch fell to Jeremiah Fuller, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
Sophomore Sascha Heinemann received an automatic entry to the main draw after winning a wild-card tournament earlier in the year.
