No. 14 Rainbow Wahine Sweep Through Louisiana Tech

HONOLULU - The No. 14 University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team (20-5, 12-1 WAC) swept through the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (6-25, 0-14) 30-16, 30-15 and 30-21 in front of a crowd of 7,041 at the Stan Sheriff Center Friday.

Jamie Houston hit .455 with 17 kills and 11 digs to lead the Rainbow Wahine. Juliana Sanders added nine kills and five blocks while Sarah Mason had eight kills.

The Lady Techsters came out well at the beginning of the match, taking a quick 7-4 lead. But Kanoe Kamana`o served UH on a 8-0 run to take the lead back at 12-7. Later in the game, Hawai`i went on a 9-1 run that pushed them towards their 30-16 game one victory.

Hawai`i was firing on all cylinders in game two, taking leads of 7-2 and 19-6 early. LTU was able to get back a few points before dropping the second game 30-15.

UH Head Coach Dave Shoji sat Kamana`o and Jayme Lee, the starting setter and libero, in the third game. Back-up setter Cayley Thurlby took full advantage of her opportunity, posting 11 assists and two blocks in the game, leading UH to the 30-21 game three win.

The Rainbow Wahine will have a day off before facing No. 20 New Mexico State for the the conference lead on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 5 p.m. The match will be on senior night with Kamana`o, Mason and Thurlby all be honored after the match.
