Hawai`i jumped on the Broncos right away, taking a 4-0 lead on Mason's second ace of night. But Boise State kept their fight, using a 7-3 run to pull within a point at 20-19. The Rainbow Wahine responded with a 5-0 run, again on the serve of Mason, to pull away 25-19, before ending the first game 30-23.
UH again started hot in game two, taking a 6-2 edge early before Boise State reeled off five-straight to take a 7-6 advantage. But Hawai`i quickly turned it around, running off eight of the next 10 points to hold a 15-9 lead on a dump by Kanoe Kamana`o. After allowing a couple points to get it to 15-11, UH made the run of the year, scoring 13 of the next 14 points, including 10 in a row on the serve of Gregory, getting the Rainbow Wahine to a 28-12 difference. The Broncos managed a few more points before a kill by Sanders ended game two, 30-16.
The Rainbow Wahine turned to backup setter Cayley Thurlby in the third game, and she delivered. Thurlby ended up with 18 assists and two blocks in the game, while leading the team to a 30-25 game three victory in which UH never lost the lead and was able to get every available player in the match. Amber Kaufman hit .400 with three kills in the game while Caroline Blood put away two kills on her only two swings.
Hawai`i will now head on the road, for a two-match trip to Louisiana Tech and New Mexico State, on Oct. 11 and 13, respectively.
