HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team opened the first day of competition at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Thursday, at the UH Tennis Complex. Three UH singles players and two doubles teams were victorious in their matches against individuals representing Brigham Young, BYU-Hawai`i and Hawai`i Pacific.

The Rainbow Wahine won two of their three doubles matches. Senior Florence Wasko and junior Chloe Bihag defeated BYU's Jocelyn Jensen and Brianna Williamsen in an exciting match, 8-6. The team of seniors Sabita Walkup and Jacqui Williams beat Elena Hudzikova and Lauren Shin of HPU, 8-2.

In singles play, Walkup easily defeated BYU's Sofia Holden, 6-2, 6-0. Seniors Kana Aikawa and Samanta Cappella outlasted their opponents in three sets. Aikawa won in a third-set tiebreak, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (6) over HPU's Stephanie Bigom while Cappella defeated Shin, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

The three-day tournament continues Friday and Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex.
