Warriors Celebrate Homecoming In 68-10 Rout Over Idaho

Box Score

HONOLULU - Ross Dickerson took the opening kickoff 100-yards to the "house" to set the tone for Homecoming 2006 as Hawai'i routed Idaho, 68-10, before a crowd of 34,051 Saturday night at Aloha Stadium.

The win marked the first five-game win streak since 2002 and propelled the Warriors into sole possession of second place, behind Boise State (4-0) in the Western Athletic Conference standings. Idaho (4-5, 3-2 WAC) fell to third. Hawai'i (6-2, 4-1 WAC) quarterback Colt Brennan completed 31-of-38 pass attempts for 333 yards and five touchdowns just over three quarters of work. The junior has thrown for more than 300 yards and five touchdowns in his last three outings, and five of his last six, and has a current streak of 158 attempts without an interception. He also led the Warriors with 63 rushing yards.

Brennan passed for 201 yards and three touchdowns, and added 57 rushing yards in the first half. He tossed touchdown strikes to Jason Rivers, Davone Bess, and running back Nate Ilaoa to help the Warriors take a 35-10 lead at the break.

The Warrior defense forced Idaho quarterback Steven Wichman (13-of-29 for 192 yards and one touchdown) to fumble in the third quarter. Safety Jacob Patek jarred the ball loose as Wichman scrambled towards first down yardage. Linebacker Micah Lau recovered the ball, and four plays later, Brennan his Ian Sample for an 11-yard touchdown to put Hawai'i ahead, 48-10, in the third quarter.

Defensive coordinator Jerry Glanville's defense has forced 15 turnovers in the last seven games, and the Warriors have scored 140 points off turnovers this season. After allowing just 10 points in the first half, The Hawai'i defense shut out the Vandals and allowed just 133 yards of total offense in the second half.

Linebacker Adam Leonard led the Warriors in tackles (7) for the fourth time this season. Wide receiver Rivers recorded a game-high 108 yards on six catches, and caught his sixth touchdown passes of the season.

Dickerson finished the game with two catches for 57 yards. His kickoff return was his second career 100-yard return, after doing the same on the opening kickoff against Appalachian State in 2003.

Slot receiver Ryan Grice-Mullen caught for 83 yards (5 receptions) and two touchdowns after missing the last four games. The Warriors have scored an average of 62 points in their last three games.

Hawai'i embarks on its final road trip to meet Utah State Saturday, Nov. 4. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. (10 a.m. Hawai'i time) at Romney Stadium.
