Rainbow Wahine, Suyetsugu, Finish Second At Kent Youel Invitational

KAPOLEI, O`ahu - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team (314-291-306=911) took second at their Kent Youel Invitational at the Kapolei Golf Club Wednesday, closing out their fall season with three-straight top five finishes.

Xyra Suyetsugu (77-72-73=222) finished three strokes back to take second at six-over-par. Dale Gammie (79-71-77=227) posted her second top 10 finish in a month, taking ninth at 11-over-par. Lisa Kajihara (81-77-76=234) and Carolina Perez (77-71-86=234) were tied for 26th at 18-over-par while Corie Hou (83-79-80=242) tied for 62nd.

Three UH players played as individuals. Nancy Shon (81-87-80=248) finished 76th at 32-over-par. Phyllis Lai (87-86-87=260) finished in 82nd at 44-over-par while Erin Matsuoka was 83rd at 45-over-par.

San Francisco beat out the Rainbow Wahine for the tournament title, finishing with a 41-over-par 905. UH was six strokes back at 47-over-par, followed by UC Irvine and Southern Methodist (+49) and Nevada (+60). SMU's Lacey Jones won the individual title at three-over-par. She was followed by Suyetsugu (+6), Melanie DeLeon of Nevada (+7), Jessica Potter of USF (+8) and SMU's Kate Ackerson and USF's Christina Stockton (+9).

The Kent Youel Invitational concluded the Rainbow Wahine's fall season, with the team posting a fourth, fifth (tied) and second place finish in their last three events. The fall was also highlighted by Gammie's individual title at the Heather Farr Memorial, the first individual title for the program since 1986. UH will return to action with the spring-opener at the Fresno State Invitational at the Copper River Country Club from Feb. 26-27.
