SAN DIEGO, Calif. - University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine senior
Sabita Walkup won the consolation singles championship on the final day of the Wilson/ITA West Region Championships Monday at the Barnes Tennis Center.
Walkup, the tournament's 20th-seeded player, won a straight-set 6-2, 6-4 decision over Katja Decker-Sadowski of USC. Walkup finished with a 5-1 tournament record and is 7-3 overall on the 2006-07 season. A transfer from Tennessee, she is currently ranked No. 116 in the preseason Fila/Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings.
Walkup and the Rainbow Wahine will next play at the USTA/ITA Indoor National Indoor Championships on Nov. 2 in Columbus, Ohio.
