Rainbows Place Third At PCCSC Sloop Championships

LAKE ISABELLA, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team finished third at the PCCSC Sloop Championships hosted by UC Irvine, Saturday, Oct. 14. USC captured the championship with a total of 11 points, edging out UC Irvine by one point.

Conditions went from partly cloudy with winds light and variable to sunny and 5-8 knots. A total of six races were sailed, with UH capturing one race. The Rainbows, however, did not place better than fourth in the other five races and finished with 22 points. Mike Scott, Mark Spector and Ryan Wild sailed for the Rainbows.

With its win, USC qualified for the ICSA Sloop Nationals to be held, Nov. 17-19, in Charleston, S.C. The UH coed team is back in action, Oct. 21-22, when it competes in the HYRA Lipton Cup One Design in Kane`ohe, O`ahu.
