SUNNYVALE, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i women's cross country team completed the regular season by finishing 11th at the Santa Clara Invitational, Saturday, at Baylands Park.
Junior Chantelle Laan was the first Rainbow Wahine to cross the finish line, placing 15th of the more than 130 competitors. Laan, UH's top finisher in each of its five races this season, finished the 5K course in a personal best 18:08.
Qualifying for the team score were senior Sharlene Carillo (18:58, 56th), freshman Tava Tedesco (19:06, 66th), senior Michel Wilson (20:32, 110th), and sophomore McKenzie Wallace (21:03, 118th). Also competing for UH were freshman Megan Chock (21:42, 127th) and junior Ashley Monfort (21:58, 129th).
The Rainbow Wahine compiled 285 points. Stanford won the team title with 68 points followed by San Francisco (99) and UC Davis (110). Nevada's Charlotte Schonbeck (17:24) took top individual honors, edging Stanford's Mary Liz McCurdy by one second.
The Rainbow Wahine take next week off before competing in the Western Athletic Conference Championship, Saturday, Oct. 28. This year's meet will be held at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif.
