Warriors Make Quick Work Of Douglas College

HONOLULU - It took the University of Hawai`i Warrior volleyball team took only one hour and 14 minutes to sweep Douglas (Canada) College tonight in an exhibition match at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Some 576 fans got a lightning quick glimpse of the 2006 rendition of the squad as the Warriors won 30-13, 30-17, and 30-24.

Senior outside hitter Jose Delgado led all attackers with 10 kills compiled in just two games and hit a sizzling .643 in 14 swings.

Junior Eric Kalima saw action in two games contributing eight kills and hit .727, while senior setter Brian Beckwith dished out 25 assists in the first two games. He was relieved by freshman Sean Carney who handed out 18 assists in a little over one game.

Besides Delgado and Kalima, Kyle Klinger (.667), four other Warriors had sharp offensive nights, including Jim Clar (.625), Mark Ribeiro (.600), and Maulia La Barre (.857) hit better .600 on the evening.

The Warriors hit .531 as a team overall and limited the Royals' offense to .065 hitting on the night.

Douglas was led by Jay Kube's seven kills, while setter Ryan Brant had 21 assists.

The two teams meet again Saturday night at the SSC with a 7 p.m. first serve. UH officially opens the 2006 campaign next week on the road in Moutain Pacific Sports Federation action against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos Jan. 13-14.
