UH Harriers Kick Off 2005 Season

LAIE, Oahu - The Hawai'i women's cross country team opened its 2005 meet schedule with a third place finish at the Chaminade Invitational, Saturday morning, near BYU-Hawai'i's campus. The meet involved three of the state's four NCAA Division II programs along with UH.

All five Rainbow Wahine runners placed in the Top 20, including junior Sheena Thain's seventh place finish. Thain completed the 5K race in 20:06. Junior Michel Wilson made her UH debut by finishing 11th at 20:43. Other UH runners included junior Sharlene Carillo (21:10, 14th), junior Ashley Monfort (21:58, 18th), and freshman McKenzie Wallace (22:13, 19th).

Hawai'i Pacific won the event with 31 total points, followed by BYU-Hawai'i (35), Hawai'i (69) and Chaminade (92). HPU's Anne Olesen took home top individual honors with a time of 18:33.

The meet was the first of three local meets that UH will compete during the next three weeks. The Rainbow Wahine next host the Big Wave Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course.
