Hamamoto Finishes Fourth In WAC, UH Takes Seventh

CHOUDRANT, La.- After three rounds of golf, the University of Hawai'i men's golf team finished the Western Athletic Conference Championships in seventh place with a 54-hole total of 921. The Warriors were led by junior Jarett Hamamoto, who finished tied for fourth with 221 over three rounds on the Squire Creek golf course.

Hamamoto, who transferred to UH from Air Force at the beginning of this season, shot a one-over 73 in the third round to move-up one spot to finish in a two-way tie for fourth place. Sophomore Cody Wolfenbarger notched a one-under 71 in the third, his lowest round of the championships, to finish tied for 26th. With a par 72, fellow sophomore Pierre-Henri Soero finished his season tied for 30th. Two Warrior seniors wrapped-up their collegiate careers earlier today as Kellen-Floyd Asao tied for 36th with 236 and Ben Douglas finished tied for 43rd with 242.

SMU claimed the team title after Tulsa, who tied for first with the Mustangs, forfeited the play-off hole due to travel time constraints. The two squads finished the competition with 54-hole totals of 889. SMU's Will Dodson hung onto his lead and took home the individual WAC championship by firing his second one-under 71 of the tournament to finish with 214 atop the individual leader board. All-WAC selections and possible births in the NCAA West Regional will be announced when made available.
