Warriors In Ninth, Hamamoto In Second After Day One Of WAC Championships

CHOUDRANT, La. -The University of Hawai`i men's golf team finished round one of the Western Athletic Conference Championships in ninth place after shooting 317 as a team on the Squire Creek golf course. Junior Jarett Hamamoto, who shot an even par 72, finished day one tied for second place and is only one stroke off the individual lead.

Also in the top 20 is senior Kellen-Floyd Asao, who is tied for 17th after shooting a six-over 78 in the first round. Also competing for the Warriors are sophomores Cody Wolfenbarger (T41, 83) and Pierre-Henri Soero (T44, 84) and senior Ben Douglas (T47, 85).

After round one, Tulsa is in first place after they fired a 13-over-par 301 as a team. The Golden Hurricane maintain a five stroke lead over second place Nevada and Rice. Tulsa's Sam Korbe, who is atop the individual leader board, heads into the second round with a one stroke lead over the second-place golfers. The WAC Championships will resume tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m., but the UH squad will not hit the links until 8:28 a.m. EST.
