PROVO, Utah- The University of Hawai`i men's golf team ended day one of the 2005 PING Cougar Classic in 10th place after shooting a par 288 in the first round followed by a six-under 282 in the second. The Warriors finished the day with a 36-hole total of 570.
Junior Jarett Hamamoto fired a three-under 69 in the first round and a two-under 70 in the second to finish day one tied for 15th place. Hamamoto leads all Warriors after two rounds with a 36-hole total of 139. Sophomore Cody Wolfenbarger is tied for 23rd with a two round total of 141. Also competing for the Warriors are sophomore Pierre-Henri Soero (144, T48) and seniors Kellen-Floyd Asao (146, T58) and Ben Douglas (152, T89).
Fresno State leads the 20-team field after notching a 33-under-par 543 after 36 holes, but host-BYU only trails the leader by one stroke. The Bulldog's Mark Modglin, who is 14 strokes below par after two rounds, is atop the leader board after firing a six-under 66 and eight-under 64 in the first and second rounds, respectively. The action resumes tomorrow morning on the par 72, 6,950 yard Riverside golf course at 8:30 a.m. MST.
