KUNA, Idaho-- The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team got off to a rough start in the Boise State-hosted Western Athletic Conference championships after shooting 330 as a team in the first round to end day one in seventh place, 29 strokes off the lead.
After 18 holes, sophomore Sara Odelius and freshman Xyra Suyetsugu lead all Rainbow Wahine golfers. The pair is currently tied for 23rd after shooting nine-over 81s on day one. Also competing for UH are sophomore Dale Gammie (83, T27) and juniors Tara Chappell (85, T34) and Roslyn Folk (88, 40).
San Jose State and Tulsa lead the eight-team field after each squad recorded a round one score of 301. The Golden Hurricane's Michaela Cavener leads all golfers after firing a one-under 71. Action will resume tomorrow morning, April 19, on the Falcon Crest golf course at 8:30 a.m.
