SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
Anna Sieprath's hat trick led the 4th ranked University of Hawai`i women's water polo team to its eighth straight win with an 8-4 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory at No. 10 UC Santa Barbara this afternoon.
The Rainbow Wahine jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter as Monika Kruszona netted the first goal 31 seconds into the game. Sieprath scored at the 2:06 mark, while All-American Beth Novick scored about one minute later.
In the second quarter, UCSB got on the board at 5:51 on Jen D'Anna's mark. UH's Sieprath added her second goal at 5:10 to give UH a 4-1 lead at the half.
UH stretched its lead to 6-2 heading into the fourth quarter on goals by Amy Logan and Shannon Carroll. The Gauchos' lone goal in the quarter came at the 3:26 mark by Nicola Bishop.
In the fourth, Novick notched her second score at 6:08. But UCSB responded with two goals later in the quarter by Dana Saign and Aimee Stachowski to close to within 7-4. Sieprath netted her third goal with 2:37 to cap the scoring.
Hawai`i goalie Meike De Nooy was in goal for the Rainbow Wahine as she recorded six saves. UCSB's goalie Christy Medigovich made seven stops.
Hawai`i improves to 13-6 overall and 8-2 in the MPSF, while UC Santa Barbara falls to 13-10 and 4-6 in the MPSF. The Rainbow Wahine continue its road swing Friday, April 15, at UC Irvine, before opening up play in the The Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State Saturday and Sunday.
