Rainbow Wahine Finish Spartan Invitational In 11th Place

SALINAS, Calif.- The University of Hawai'i women's golf team finished the San Jose State Spartan Invitational in 11th place with a 54-hole total of 915 on the 5,826-yard Corral de Tierra Country Club's golf course. The Rainbow Wahine were led by sophomore golfer Dale Gammie, who notched her third top-ten finish of the season after ending the event with a 218-stroke total, five strokes over par.

Gammie, of Pukalani, Maui, moved into a tie for ninth place after she shot a one-under-par 71 in the final round, surpassing fellow sophomore Sara Odelius as UH's top finisher. Despite ending the second round in seventh place, Odelius slipped five spots down the leader board into a tie for 12th after she posted a three-over 74 in round three. Odelius finished with a 54-hole total of 219. Also golfing for the Rainbow Wahine were junior Tara Chappell (237, T 57), sophomore Megan Stoddart (243, T 66) and freshman Xyra Suyetsugu (243, T 66).

Defending national champion UCLA took home the team title after firing a 289 on the final 18 holes and finishing with 868 over three rounds. California's Sofie Anderson held off a late charge by UNLV's Elena Kurokawa to claim top honors among the 75-woman field with a 54-hole total of 206.

The Rainbow Wahine will next be in action when they host the 2005 Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at the Kaneohe Klipper golf course on March 14-16.
