Northwestern Shuts Out Hawai'i, 1-0

Stanford, Calif. - The No. 20 Northwestern Wildcats and pitcher Courtnay Foster shut down the Hawaii offense, downing the Rainbow Wahine 1-0. It was the first game of a doubleheader for UH on the second day of play in the Stanford Classic held at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium.

Northwestern's Foster had a perfect game through five innings. She finished with a complete game, two-hit, shut-out, striking out 14 and walking only one.

Kate Robinson broke up the perfect game with a single to rightfield in the bottom of the sixth inning with one out. Tyleen Tausaga added another hit in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all the Hawai'i offense could produce. No Hawai'i runner was able to advance past second base.

The Wildcats scored their only run in the top of the first inning. Sheila McCorkle reached on a fielding error, and was later driven home on a double by Jamie Dotson.

Hawai'i's Paula Blanning threw her fifth complete game of her career. She gave up one run, scattered six hits and struck out four on the day.

UH will face UNLV next at 11 am PST.
