Hawai'i Loses Heartbreaker, 4-2 to No.5 Stanford In Extra Innings

Stanford, Calif. - Hawai'i lost another heartbreaking game to a Top-10 team. UH led 2-0 into the bottom of the seventh until Stanford's Becky McCullough drove a two-run home run over the centerfield fence to knot the score at 2-2. In the bottom of the eighth, with the international tie-breaker in effect, the Cardinals' Leah Nelson hit a deep fly ball over the left field wall for a two-run walk-off home run.

Hawaii scored first when Kate Robinson hit her first career home run to leftfield, making the score 1-0. In the to of the sixth UH added a second run when Kristi Yoshizawa reached safely on a base hit up the middle. She was then pushed to second on a sacifice bunt executed by Tracie Uchima. Yoshizawa then advance to third on a passed ball and scored two pitches later on a wild pitch.

Melissa Coogan threw the complete game, giving up four runs on five hits, with three walks and one strike out.

Hawaii will now face Northwestern at 9 am and UNLV at 11 am for day two of the Stanford Classic.
