HONOLULU - The Hawai`i women's tennis team concluded its three-match spring break homestand with a 5-2 loss to Loyola Marymount, Wednesday, at the UH Tennis Complex. The Lions won all three doubles matches and four of the six singles contests.
The Rainbow Wahine (5-12) rallied from a 1-0 deficit with a victory at the No. 1 court where Lauren Fitzgerald, the ITA's No. 86th ranked player, had little trouble from Carla Arguelles, 6-1, 6-0, for her team-leading 15th singles win. But the Lions answered by taking the Nos. 2, 3, and 6 courts, including former Kamehameha Schools graduate Kimi Kaloi's 6-1, 6-1 victory over Paige Mainor.
With LMU's team victory in hand, the final two singles matches went to super-tiebreakers where UH's Kimberly Curtis rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-1) triumph over Tamara Tanner at No. 4, for her fifth victory in her last six matches. LMU's Erin Ivey pulled out a dramatic 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9) win over Kana Aikawa at the No. 5 court.
The Rainbow Wahine once again played without No. 2 singles player Sylvia Jaros, who missed the team's previous two matches due to a nagging wrist injury.
UH will next travel to the mainland, where it plays four matches in five days, beginning with Idaho State, April 2.
