HONOLULU - Senior Lauren Fitzgerald's dominant performance against Cornell could not overcome the Big Red's 6-1 victory over the Hawai`i women's tennis team, Monday afternoon, at the UH Tennis Complex. Fitzgerald, ranked No. 84 in the latest ITA national rankings, won both her singles and doubles matches as the Rainbow Wahine dropped to 5-10 on the year.

In doubles play, Fitzgerald and Paige Mainor teamed for an 8-4 victory over Akane Kokubo and Mollie Edinson at the No. 1 court. However the Big Red took the Nos. 2 and 3 spots to win the doubles point.

Singles competition was fierce as Fitzgerald rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-0 victory over Kokubo at No. 1. Three other matches went to three sets with the Big Red winning all three. The Rainbow Wahine played without No. 2 Sylvia Jaros due to a nagging wrist injury forcing Justine Boutet and Mainor to move up a spot and seldom used Chloe Bihag into the singles lineup.

Boutet dropped a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 decision to Edinson at No. 2 while Mainor fell, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 to Erika Takeuchi at No. 3.

The Rainbow Wahine return to action by hosting Xavier, Tuesday, and Loyola Marymount, Wednesday. Both matches begin at 10:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
