NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Hawai'i women's track and field team began mainland competition for the 2005 outdoor season with the Northridge Spring Break Open, last week. Junior
Novelle Murray led the UH charge with an NCAA Regional Qualification mark in the discus. Murray threw a season-best 48.47m to win top honors.
In all, the Rainbow Wahine placed first in six events. On the track, sophomore Dana Buchanan won the 800m (2:10.45) and the 4x400m relay team of Tasha Monroe, Ashley Monfort, Kelly Young and Jessica Rohr won in 3:54.14.
In the field, Monroe jumped 5.88m to win the long jump, freshman Meghan Weaver threw a personal best 13.35m in the shot put and Bianca DeBartolo posted a throw of 38.44m to win top javelin honors.
In addition, Weaver finished second behind Murray in the discus with a personal best throw of 46.08m while Murray placed third in the shot put (13.04m).
In the 1500m, UH runners finished second and third, as Young and Sabrina Reeve recorded times of 4:33.99 and 4:35.58, respectively. Patricia Gauthier placed third in the 100m (13.02) and Monroe ran 24.71 to finish third in the 200m.
