Rainbow Warriors Hustle Past Huskies

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team captured its third straight win at home with a 7-0 defeat of NCAA Division II member Bloomsburg University, Thursday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. Led by junior Ryan Sceats' eighth consecutive singles match win, the Rainbow Warriors improved to 4-9 on the season, while the Huskies fell to 1-5.

Hawai`i earned the team point at doubles with a three-match sweep, including an 8-1 win by the pair of Dalibor Ptak and Derrick Lajola over Bloomsburg's Mike McGrath and Mark Vellek.

The Huskies fought back in singles play, taking two matches to three sets. However, Hawai`i's Jarrod Diepraam responded by defeating Vellek, 6-2, in the third set, while the Rainbow Warriors' Yasuo Sakurai fought back to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 over Mark Farnsworth. Meanwhile, Sceats' winning ways continued with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory over Bloomsburg's Dan Gal.

The Rainbow Warriors return to action on Thursday, Mar. 16, facing off with future WAC member Utah State at the UH Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
