UH Begins Spring Golf Season in Waikoloa, End Day One in 20th

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i -- After a three month hiatus, the University of Hawai'i men's golf team kicked-off their spring season on the 6,687-yard Waikoloa Village Golf Course at the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate on the Big Island. As a team, the Warriors shot a two-over-par 290 and finished the first round in 20th place out of the 21-team field.

Amid some of the toughest competition of the season, sophomore golfer Cody Wolfenbarger leads all Warrior golfers with a two-under-par 70. Wolfenbarger, who finished the fall season with an individual championship at Turtle Bay, finished day one tied for 49th. Junior Travis Toyama is currently tied for 71st after shooting a par 72. Pierre-Henri Soero, a junior from Noumea, New Caledonia, ended day one tied for 86th after he shot a one-over 73. Senior Kellen-Floyd Asao and junior Jarett Hamamoto are both tied for 102nd after they each posted a three-over 75 in round one.

Oklahoma State, who is ranked third in the nation by Golfweek.com, currently holds a one stroke lead over 11th ranked Southern California, as the two teams finished round one with scores of 264 and 265, respectively. Augusta State's Emmett Turner, Oklahoma State's Tyler Leon and Kansas' Tyler Docking each share a piece of the lead after round one after they each shot an eight-under-par 64 on day one. This year's Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate field features seven nationally ranked teams including: Texas (8), UCLA (9), TCU (10, Augustus State (14) and Arizona State (15). Round two will begin tomorrow morning at 6:45 a.m.
