'Bows Drop Series Finale To Cougars, 7-1

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (7-5) fell to the Washington State Cougars (7-7) 7-1, to finish the series with a 2-2 split, in front of a crowd of 2,344 at the Les Murakami Stadium Sunday. Justin Costi (0-2) took the loss for UH, while Wayne Daman (2-0) pitched an 8.0 inning, three-hit gem to get the win for the Cougars.

Luis Avila had the lone RBI, going 1-for-4. Joseph Spiers scored UH's run while letting his 11-game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-for-4 game.

The Cougars got one run in the top of the first before Avila answered with a single to left to score Spiers, tying the game at one.

Washington State then took the lead again in the fourth, scoring three unearned runs to go up 4-1. Wazzu added three insurance runs in the top of the ninth while holding the Rainbow offense at bay to get the 7-1 victory.

Hawai`i will now host the First Hawaii Title Rainbow Baseball Tournament, from March 1-5. The tournament kicks off with a 10:30 a.m. game between South Florida and UC-Davis on Tuesday, March 1. Wichita State will play Louisiana-Lafayette in the 2:30 p.m. game before Hawai`i hosts Sacramento State in the 6:35 p.m. nightcap.
