WAHIAWA, Hawai`i. -- The University of Hawai`i men's golf team tied for 13th place with San Jose State to end the 2005 John Burns Intercollegiate. The Warriors shot 294 as a team in the third round. Sophomore
Pierre-Henri Soero led the Warriors with 206 and finished tied for sixth. New Mexico won the UH-hosted tournament with a 54-hole total of 833, two strokes ahead of runner-up UNLV. The Rebel's Ryan Moore fired an eight-under 64 on the third day to bring his total to 196 and take home the individual title and finish seven strokes ahead the second place finishers.
Soero shot a four-under 68 in round three en route to notching his first top-ten finish of the 2004-05 season. Junior Jarett Hamamoto shot an even-par 72 and ended the tournament tied for 46th. Also competing on the Hawai`i "A" team were senior Kellen-Floyd Asao (223, T 80), junior Travis Toyama (224, T 85) and sophomore Cody Wolfenbarger (229, T 101).
Hawai`i's "B" team finished in 21st with a 54-hole total of 900. Representing the Hawai`i's "B" team were freshman Ryan Perez (220, T 70), senior Ben Douglas (224, T 85), freshman Billy-Bob Hoyt (229, T 101), senior Manarii Gauthier (230, T 108) and freshman Chase Bingham (241, 116). Junior Jordan Belton, who golfed as a non-scoring individual, finished in 120th with 250 after three rounds.
Last year's individual champion and number one ranked golfer in the country by Golfweek/Sagarin, Lobo golfer Spencer Levin, tied for second with BYU's Greg Machtaler and San Jose's Justin Madison with 203 after three rounds. The Warrior golf team will next be in action when they travel to Santa Barbara to compete in the Bite/Pacific Intercollegiate on April 4th and 5th.
