WAHIAWA, Hawai'i.-- After day two of playing host at the John Burns Intercollegiate, the University of Hawai'i men's golf team dropped to 12th place with a 36-hole total of 575. The Warriors shot one-under-par 278 as a team in the second round. New Mexico moved into the lead after shooting 275 in round two to bring their 36-hole total to 549, four strokes ahead of second place Arizona. New Mexico's Spencer Levin, UNLV's Ryan Moore and SMU's Will Dodson are in a three-way tie atop the individual leader board with 132, 12 strokes below par, after 36 holes.
Sophomore golfer Pierre-Henri Soero fired a three-under 69 for the second day in a row and moved four spots up the leader board into a six-way tie for eighth place with 138. Soero is six strokes off the lead. Junior Jarett Hamamoto jumped 19 spots from 69th to 50th after his four-under-par 70 in round two. Also competing on the Hawai`i "A" team are senior Kellen-Floyd Asao (146, T 66), junior Travis Toyama (147, T 74) and sophomore Cody Wolfenbarger (152, T 100).
Freshman Ryan Perez continued to lead Hawai`i's "B" team, which ended day two in 21st place with 596, through the second round after he posted a par 72 and moved into a tie for 38th. Also representing the "B" team are senior Ben Douglas (148, T 82), senior Manarii Gauthier (153, T 103), freshman William Hoyt (155, T 110) and freshman Chase Bingham (160, T 114). Junior Jordan Belton, who is golfing as a non-scoring individual, shot a nine-over-par 81 on Thursday and remains in 120th place after two rounds. Belton's two round total is 167.
Action will resume tomorrow morning with the third and final round of golf on the 6,917-yard Leilehua Golf Course at 7:30 A.M. with a shotgun start.
