Gammie Shares First At Bay Area Classic, Team Takes Fifth

SAN JOSE, CA - Rainbow Wahine golfer Dale Gammie fired a two-over-par 74 in the second and final round of the 2005 Bay Area Classic en route to claiming a share of first place, but the top individual medalist honors went to San Francisco's Joan Shimozaki, who shot a two-under 70 on the back nine to win. They each finished the tournament with a 36-hole total of 150. As a team, UH shot 636 over two rounds at the 6,095 yard Boulder Ridge Golf Club to tie for fifth place with UC Irvine.

Also golfing for UH were sophomore Sara Odelius (T 21, 160), freshman Xyra Suyetsugu (T 43, 168) and junior Kari Sur (184, 63).

Co-host San Francisco overcame an eight shot deficit to surge into the lead during the second round to claim the team championship with a two-round total of 625. Co-host San Jose State finished in second with 626. The Rainbow Wahine will return to the Bay Area on March 7-9 to compete in the San Jose State-hosted Spartan Invitational.
