HONOLULU - Two-time Western Athletic Conference discus champion
Novelle Murray warmed up for her chase at another league title by breaking her own University of Hawai`i record in the 20lb weight toss during Saturday's All-Comers Meet #4 at Cooke Field.
Murray threw an impressive 17.39 (57'5 1/4") in the squad's final event before this week's WAC Indoor Championships in Boise, Idaho.
"Novelle's throw yesterday was huge" UH throws coach Garrett Collier said. "It tells me she is ready for bigger and better things. Everything is coming together and she is ready for a big performance in both the 20lb weight and the shot put."
Junior Tasha Monroe broke the first record of the day at 60 meters, setting a new Cooke Field and UH record with a time of 7.88. Sophomore Dana Buchanan also proved she is ready for WAC Championships with an impressive finish in the 1000m. Buchanan's time of 2:55.41 set a new Cooke Field and UH record.
"Everyone raced well which augers well for the WAC," said Buchanan, who will participate in both the 1-mile and Distance Medley Relay at the WAC Indoor Championships.
